Tech named to AVCA Academic Team

BLACKSBURG – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday that the Virginia Tech volleyball team earned the academic accomplishment for the 2019-20 season. This is the second straight season that Tech has received the award by the AVCA.

The award which was started in 1992-1993 honors teams that average a GPA of 3.30 or higher for the academic year. A record 1,315 teams earned the AVCA Academic Award beating out last year's record by 190 programs.

The Hokies were one of eleven ACC teams honored by the AVCA, including Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia and Wake Forest.

Tech has excelled in the classroom averaging a GPA of 3.28 in the fall and 3.76 in the spring semester. Tech finished the 2019-20 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.52.

Earlier this year the volleyball team had the entire active roster earn a spot on the 2019-20 ACC Honor Roll, while setter Talyn Jackson was named to the All-ACC Academic Team. The AVCA team award is the latest honor in an impressive run of academic achievements for the Hokies.
