LAS VEGAS — The Virginia Tech women's tennis team put forward a strong effort on Saturday afternoon in a 4-3 win against Arkansas in a neutral site match in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tech fell behind after giving up the first set, but the Hokies came back strong in singles. After dropping the first set, senior Natalie Novotna prevailed in a three-set contest against Tatum Rice, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Junior Elizabet Danailova put on an impressive performance against Lauren Alter and came away with a 7-6(2), 6-4 win. Fellow junior Nina Sorkin also confidently handled Kelly Keller on court four, downing her opponent 6-1, 6-3.
With the match tied up at 3-3, freshman Erika Cheng reigned victorious after three-sets against Thea Rice, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, and clinched the win for Tech.
The Hokies will be back on the court tomorrow at 1 p.m. to face host team UNLV.
