BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women's golf team continues spring play on Monday and Tuesday, as it travels to Houston to compete in the Icon Invitational. The two-day tournament will be played at the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas, beginning on Monday morning.
The Hokies opened the Spring 2020 portion of the schedule two weeks ago with a strong third place finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Freshman Alyssa Montgomery led the Hokies, tying for third place, the best finish of her young collegiate career.

ICON INVITATIONAL
The 14-team field will play the par 72, 6,392-yard Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club, a Bruce Devlin/Robert von Hagge-designed course. The Hokies are only ACC team in the tournament. Led by No. 1 Texas, No. 5 Kent State and the No. 20 Hokies, six of the 14 teams are ranked in the Top 40. This is the first year the Hokies have competed in the event, which is hosted by Houston.
The Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club has hosted LPGA, PGA And PGA Champions Tour events through the years and is currently the home of the Insperity Invitational on the Champions Tour since 2008.
Tournament action will consist of 36 holes of play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. There will be a practice round on Sunday, Feb. 23.
The six players competing for the Hokies in Houston are:
Jessica Spicer, senior, Bahama, North Carolina; Sarah Spicer, redshirt junior, Bahama, North Carolina; Emily Mahar, junior, Brisbane, Australia; Keera Foocharoen, sophomore, Bangkok, Thailand; Alyssa Montgomery, freshman, Knoxville, Tennessee and Becca DiNunzio, freshman, Norfolk, Virginia.
