Hokies see two earn ACC Performer of the Week honors

ACC Release

BLACKSBURG – For the second time of the indoor season, the Virginia Tech track and field teams saw two members awarded ACC Performer of the Week recognition, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.

One week after breaking the school record in the pole vault, Rachel Baxter leaped 4.47 meters (14 feet, 8 inches) to win her second consecutive pole vault competition at the Doc Hale Elite Meet. Her mark tied the No. 5 mark nationally and was the second-best leap by any vaulter in the country over the weekend.

Caitlan Tate earned Performer of the Week honors for the first time of her career as the Atlanta, Georgia native broke her second school record of the season by crossing the finish line in the 200 meters with a time of 23.39. Her time ranks first in the conference and 12th nationally. Tate also ran the anchor leg (53.91 split) for the Hokies' 4x400 relay team that broke the school record with their time of 3:36.24.

Two others were selected by the ACC for weekly honors, including Louisville's Yared Nuguse (Men's Track) and Virginia's Jordan Scott (Men's Field).

The Hokies split for four meets on the weekend as they compete at the Iowa State Invitational, New Mexico Invitational, Texas Tech Invitational and the VMI Indoor Classic.
