Virginia Tech women's golfer Becca DiNunzio has been named the Junior Girls Golfer of the Year by the Virginia State Golf Association.
The freshman from Norfolk, Virginia, won the 50th VSGA Junior Girls' Championship in July at the Broad Bay Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Earlier in the summer, she won the stroke play qualifying for the VSGA Women's Amateur in Virginia Beach, advancing to the semifinal round in match play.
She also won medalist honors at the sectional qualifier of the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship in Fredericksburg, Virginia and finished second in the VSGA Women's Stroke Play Championship in Richmond. Her year also included a victory in the AJGA Imperial Headwear Junior Classic and the Junior Girls' PureSilk Championship, which allowed her to compete in the LPGA PureSilk Championship Monday Qualifier.
This fall at Virginia Tech, DiNunzio appeared in all four events for the Hokies. She registered a pair of top 20 finishes, 17th place in both The Landfall Tradition and Princess Anne Invitational, where she helped the Hokies earn the first team title in program history.
DiNunzio and the Hokies return to action after the winter break on Feb. 9-11, as they compete in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The three-day event, hosted by Purdue, will be played at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.
