Five Hokies remain in contention at Cliff Keen Invitational

LAS VEGAS – Five Virginia Tech wrestlers will compete on day two of competition at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas on Saturday.
 
Friday's Highlights

  • Joey Prata moves on to the second day of competition in Las Vegas after posting a 3-1 record on day one. Prata had a 10-5 decision victory over 11-seed Joshua Portillo of Nebraska Kearney in the first consolation round of eight to move on to Saturday.
  • Collin Gerardi made it to the quarterfinals of the 133-pound bracket Friday before losing a 6-3 decision to Chas Tucker of Cornell, who was the 1 seed and ranked seventh in the country by InterMat. Gerardi will compete in the second consolation round of eight on Saturday.
  • Mitch Moore won his first two matches of the day to get to Friday's quarterfinals where he stumbled to 2-seed Dom Demas of Oklahoma 6-4. Moore will look to improve on his 2-1 Friday in Saturday's second consolation round of eight.
  • Hunter Bolen advanced to the quarterfinals Friday after a 10-4 decision victory over No. 18 Zach Carlson of South Dakota State before losing a 10-8 decision to No. 3 Taylor Lujan of Northern Iowa. Bolen will compete Saturday in the 184-pound second consolation round of eight.
  • John Borst went 3-1 Friday to advance to Saturday's competition. His only loss came in sudden victory at the hands of Iowa State's Gannon Gremmel who is ranked 16th in the country by InterMat. Borst will compete in Saturday's second consolation round of eight.
