Hokies hit the road to play Clemson

BLACKSBURG – Looking for payback from its Oct. 11 loss to Clemson, the Virginia Tech volleyball team will face the Tigers on Friday at 7 p.m. ET in South Carolina inside Jervey Gym. 

 

The Hokies (9-18, 2-12 ACC) in their last away match of the season will take on Clemson (10-15, 4-10) for the second time this season. This matchup will conclude a three-match road swing away from Cassell Coliseum.

Earlier this season, Tech fell to Clemson in Blacksburg in four sets. Despite the loss, Tech saw big performances from junior Kaity Smith who posted a 12-kill, 15-dig double-double and setter Talyn Jackson, who had 34 assists.

 

Tech last won on the road in Winston-Salem on Oct. 27 in a five-set thriller. The Hokies have won seven matches away from Cassell Coliseum this season. 

 

Last time out, against Syracuse, redshirt freshman Jennifer Williams notched her career high in kills with five in her first-ever start. Middle blocker Marisa Cerchio added five kills as well. Cerchio leads Tech in kills with 277 on the year. 

 

Libero Logan Mosley inched closer to the all-time freshman dig record at Tech after she scooped up seven digs versus Syracuse, bringing her total on the season to 453. Mosley is just 28 digs shy of the record. 

 

Mosley sits at second in the ACC in digs per set, averaging 4.33 per frame. Jackson ranks seventh in assists per set in the ACC, averaging 9.06 per stanza.

 

SCOUTING CLEMSON

- Clemson, before losing to Pitt on the road earlier this week, lost to both Virginia and North Carolina. Clemson is in seventh place in the ACC, having lost its past five matchups.

- Head coach Michaela Franklin enters her third season in Clemson, following her time as an associate head coach at Iowa. Franklin, who took over Clemson in 2017, has a 3-1 series record against the Hokies.

- The Tigers are led by Kaylin Korte, who is in the top five in kills per set and points in the ACC.

- The Hokies trail in the all-time series against Clemson 20-12 and look to snap their three-match losing streak.
