Hokies finish fourth at Grandover Collegiate

FINAL RESULTS

MONDAY

The Virginia Tech men's golf team posted a three-round total of 894 and finished in fourth place at the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate on Monday afternoon. The two-day tournament was played at the par 72, 7,245-yard East Course of the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina. 
 
Mark Lawrence Jr., a redshirt senior from Richmond, Virginia, led the Hokies in Greensboro. He finished tied for second at even-par 216, three strokes behind medalist Nick Lyerly of host UNC Greensboro. This is Lawrence's best finish of the season and his second consecutive top 10 finish.
 
Connor Johnson Jr., a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, tied for 13th  at 222 and Drew Brockwell, a sophomore from Chesterfield, Virginia, tied for 31st at 230. Connor Burgess, a junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, tied for 39th at 232 and Cameron Moore, a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, tied for 67th at 165241
 
Two Hokies competed in the event as individuals. Daniel Azallion, a freshman from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and Slade Pickering, a junior from North West, South Africa, tied for 15th at 223.
 
Host UNC Greensboro won the team title for the second consecutive year. The Spartans posted a 12-over 876, nine strokes better than Rutgers. Appalachian State was third at 891, three strokes ahead of the Hokies. Penn State was fifth at 905, Chattanooga was sixth at 911, VCU was seventh at 913 and Ohio was eighth at 925. Elon was ninth at 941, Seton Hall was 10th at 946 and Villanova was 11th at 957. 
 
This was the Hokies' final event of the fall. Tech returns to action Feb. 23-25, as they travel to Dorado, Puerto Rico to compete in the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro.

The Virginia Tech men's golf team has a two-round total of 591 and is in third place at the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate on Sunday. The two-day tournament is being played at the par 72, 7,245-yard East Course of the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina. 
 
Mark Lawrence Jr., a redshirt senior from Richmond, Virginia, is in fifth place at 1-under 143. He is just two strokes behind leader Tony Jiang of Rutgers. Lawrence had a 3-under 69 in the morning round and a 74 in the afternoon and had a combined eight birdies on Sunday.
 
Connor Johnson Jr., a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for sixth at 144 and Drew Brockwell, a sophomore from Chesterfield, Virginia, is 15that 148. Connor Burgess, a junior from Lynchburg, Virginia, is tied for 48that 156 and Cameron Moore, a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, is 74that 165.
 
Two Hokies are competing in the event as individuals. Daniel Azallion, a freshman from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is tied for eighth at 145 and Slade Pickering, a junior from North West, South Africa, is tied for 19that 150. Johnson and Azallion both also recorded eight birdies on the day, including birdies on the final three holes of the day by Azallion.
 
Host UNC Greensboro holds the team lead entering the final round. The Spartans posted an 8-over 584, two strokes better than Rutgers and seven strokes ahead of the Hokies. Appalachian State is fourth at 594, Chattanooga is fifth at 600, Penn State is sixth at 603, VCU and Ohio are tied for seventh at 615, Elon is ninth at 629 and Seton Hall and Villanova are tied for 10that 632. 
 
The final round will be played Monday morning with an8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The Hokies will be grouped with UNC Greensboro and Rutgers and will begin on holes 1-4.
