The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted a three-round total of 881 and ties Indiana for seventh place at The Landfall Tradition on Sunday afternoon. The three-day tournament was played at the par 72, 6,166-yard Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Jessica Spicer, a senior from Bahama, North Carolina, led the Hokies at Landfall. She carded a 2-under 214 and finished in a tie for sixth place individually. She finished five strokes behind medalist Priscilla Schmid of Indiana. Spicer birdied the 12thhole, her ninth hole of the day and registered 17 pars on route to her 1-under 71 on Sunday.
Becca DiNunzio, a freshman from Norfolk, Virginia, tied for 17that 218 and Emily Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia, tied for 34that 221. Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, tied for 64that 230 and Keera Foocharoen, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, tied for 77that 232.
South Carolina took the team title at 7-under 587, five strokes ahead of Alabama and 12 strokes ahead of Illinois. Oklahoma State was fourth at 872, Michigan State was fifth at 874 and Florida State was sixth at 874, seven strokes ahead of the Hokies and Hoosiers. NC State was ninth at 882, Furman was 10that 884, UCF was 11that 885 and North Carolina was 12that 888. Michigan was 13that 891, Virginia was 14that 893, Penn State was 15that 899, Maryland was 16that 907, Purdue was 17that 916 and host UNC Wilmington was 18that 917. Tech shot rounds of 292 in each of the first two rounds and finished with a 297 on Sunday.
The Hokies are back on the road next weekend, as they complete the Fall 2019 portion of the schedule at the Battle at the Beach. The three-day tournament, hosted by TCU, will be played at the Club Campestre in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, Nov. 1-3.

Becca DiNunzio, a freshman from Norfolk, Virginia, leads the Hokies. She is tied for sixth place individually with a 2-under 142. She trails leader Angelica Moresco of Alabama by three strokes. DiNunzio posted an even-par 72 in Friday's opening round and followed that with a 2-under 70 on Saturday. The 70 is her lowest collegiate round to date in her freshman season. DiNunzio had three birdies and only one bogey in her Saturday round.

Alabama holds the team lead entering the final round at 13-under 563, 11 strokes ahead of South Carolina and 16 strokes ahead of Florida State. Illinois and Oklahoma State are tied for fourth at 581, three strokes ahead of the Hokies. NC State is seventh at 586, Indiana is eighth at 587, Michigan State is ninth at 588, and UCF is 10that 589. North Carolina is 11that 592, Furman is 12that 593, Virginia and Penn State are tied for 13that 598, Michigan is 15that 599, Purdue is 16that 601 and Maryland and host UNC Wilmington are tied for 17that 607.
The final round will take place on Sunday morning. Tech will be grouped with Illinois and Oklahoma State for the 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.

The Virginia Tech women's golf team posted an opening round 4-over 292 and is tied with Oklahoma State for eighth place at The Landfall Tradition on Friday. The three-day tournament is being played at the par 72, 6,166-yard Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Emily Mahar, a junior from Brisbane, Australia, leads the Hokies after shooting a 1-under 71. She is tied for ninth place, three strokes behind leader Tunrada Piddon of UCF. Mahar birdied two of her final five holes on Friday.

Alyssa Montgomery, a freshman from Knoxville, Tennessee, is tied for 72nd place at 77 and Keera Foocharoen, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 86th at 79.
Alabama and Illinois share the lead at 3-under 285, one stroke ahead of Virginia and four strokes ahead of Florida State and South Carolina. UCF is sixth at 290 and NC State is seventh at 291, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Cowgirls. Indiana is 10that 293, Michigan, Penn State and North Carolina are tied for 11that 296, Purdue, Maryland and host UNC Wilmington are tied for 14that 298 and Michigan State and Furman are tied for 17that 299.
The Landfall Tradition annually attracts one of top fields in collegiate golf and this year's event is no different. Thirteen of the 18 competing teams are ranked in the top 50 of the Golfstat.com rankings.
The second round will be played Saturday morning and the final round will take place on Sunday morning. Tech will be grouped with NC State and Oklahoma State in the second round.
