CARY, N.C. – The 8th-seeded Virginia Tech men's tennis team fell to 9th-seed Notre Dame 4-0 on Thursday morning at the 2019 ACC Men's Tennis Championship in Cary, North Carolina.
The 23rd-ranked Irish got out to the early lead after securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
Notre Dame pushed its lead with a win on court two where 94th-ranked Richard Ciamarra defeated Henrik Korsgaard 6-4, 6-2. Axel Nefve got the win on court two with a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Jason Kros to push the Irish ahead 3-0.
The deciding match was on court five where Tech's Brandon Perez fell behind in the opening set 4-1, but rallied to tie it up at 4-all. Notre Dame's William Howells held on for the final two points of the set before going on to take the second 6-1, clinching the win.
Tech's Alex Ribeiro and Carlo Donato both held leads in the second sets of their matches, but went unfinished once it was decided.
