Early deficit too much to overcome for Hokies in ACC series final game

BLACKSBURG – A three-run home run in the second inning by No. 8 North Carolina's Dylan Enwiller was enough offense for the Tar Heels on Sunday afternoon at English Field at Union Park as UNC handed Virginia Tech a 5-2 defeat and took the ACC baseball series from the Hokies two games to one.

Enwiller's long ball was the first of two home runs hit by the Tar Heels on Sunday as Michael Busch hit a solo home run in the fifth to increase the UNC lead to 4-0.

Tech (16-8, 4-5 ACC) was held scoreless until after the seventh-inning stretch and quickly cut its deficit in half. Leading off the frame, Nick Biddison was hit by a pitch and Kevin Madden tripled, the first of his career, to drive him home. Madden then crossed the plate on pinch hitter Michael Fernandez' sacrifice fly.

North Carolina (18-7, 4-5 ACC) added an insurance run in the top of the eighth – its own sacrifice fly, while Tech tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth inning again with two outs.

Nick Owens singled and Jonah Seagears drew a two-out walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but Tar Heel closer Caden O'Brien finished the game with a strikeout.
