Women’s hoops set for postseason, begin WNIT Thursday night against Furman

2019 WNIT Bracket

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team gets set for another run in the WNIT, hosting a first round matchup on Thursday, March 21 against the Furman Paladins of the Southern Conference. The game will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra. Tip off will be at 7 p.m.

The Hokies have been to the WNIT in each of the last three seasons, advancing past the first round each time. Last season's trip included a memorable run to the Championship game in Bloomington, Indiana where Tech helped set an Indiana women's basketball record for attendance with 13,007. Tech fell in the title game to the Hoosiers 65-57.

In 2018-19, Tech stands at 20-11 after going 6-10 in league play. In the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, the Hokies defeated Wake Forest easily 85-63 in the first round behind 26 points from senior guard Taylor Emery. Regan Magarity had 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Trinity Baptiste secured her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
The win was number 400 in the career of head coach Kenny Brooks.

Tech had an undefeated 13-0 record in non-conference play, which featured wins over Villanova, Big Ten institutions Rutgers and Ohio State and a 55-44 victory over Big South champions Radford.

The Hokies had three All-ACC performers for the first time in program history this season, as Emery earned first team honors, Magarity was second team and Dara Mabrey made the All-Freshman roster.

That same trio also earned All-ACC Academic Team honors.

Emery earned All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 30.5 points in Greensboro.

Tech has met Furman four times previously, winning on each occasion. In the most recent meeting in 2015, Rachel Camp was in double figures with 10 points and Regan Magarity scored seven points and added seven rebounds.

Tickets for Thursday's contest can be purchased here. Adult tickets are $10 and tickets for fans 17 and under are $5. All Virginia Tech students will get in free by presenting their Hokie Passport at the Cassell Coliseum Ticket Office.
