Hokies are 5th seed in New York Life ACC Tournament

The Virginia Tech men's basketball team has earned a bye in the first round of the 66th annual New York Life ACC Tournament, which will be played Tuesday through Saturday at Charlotte's Spectrum Center.

Tech completed the regular season 23-7 overall and 12-6 in ACC play. The Hokies finished the ACC regular season in fifth place and are the fifth seed in the event. Tech will play the winner of Tuesday's game between 12th seed Miami and 13th seed Wake Forest on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. on ESPN and Raycom Sports.

This is the Hokies' fourth consecutive season with a first round bye, the longest such streak since joining the ACC in the 2004-05 season. The five seed is Tech's best seed since the Hokies were the four seed in the 2010 season.

The tournament opens Tuesday with three first-round games. Winners will advance to play Wednesday against first round bye teams. Wednesday's winners will advance to face the tournament's four top seeded teams in Thursday's quarterfinal round.

The 2019 New York Life ACC Tournament will culminate with a pair of semifinal games on Friday night and the championship game on Saturday evening. This year's championship game is set for a primetime 8:30 p.m. start.

All 14 tournament games will be nationally televised on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU and Raycom. All games will also be available via ACC Network Extra.
