Virginia Tech guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker has been named to the midseason watch lists for the Lute Olson Award and the John R. Wooden Award.
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player in college basketball. The 2019 Lute Olson Award will be presented at the College Insider awards event in April at the site of the men's Division I national championship in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alexander-Walker is one of 30 players on the list and one of six ACC players recognized.
Alexander-Walker, a sophomore from Toronto, Canada, is one of seven players joining the John R. Wooden Award watch list in the midseason. The award is bestowed upon the nation's best basketball player at an NCAA Division I university who has proven to his or her university that he or she meets or exceeds the qualifications of the John R. Wooden Award as set forth by Coach Wooden. Alexander-Walker is one of five ACC players on the 25-man watch list. The award is held at the Los Angeles Athletic Club during the John R. Wooden Award Weekend.
Alexander-Walker leads the Hokies in scoring this season at 17.8 points per game. He is fifth in the ACC in scoring, second in the league in steals and third in the league in field-goal percentage. He is also on the watch list for the Oscar Robertson Award.
