Hokies release 2019 schedule Friday

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Head Coach John Sung released the 2019 lacrosse schedule Friday, announcing another challenging slate that features seven team who featured in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, including national champion James Madison.

The Hokies will face squads from seven different conferences across the country including; the Patriot League, CAA, Pac-12, Big East, ASUN, Big South and MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation).

The home slate is highlighted by a visit from JMU on Feb. 13, a team that the Hokies are 0-16 against all-time. Last season, the Hokies fell 16-11 in Harrisonburg, and the Dukes went on to win six games against ACC opposition on the way to their first ever title.

Bucknell, Colorado, Cincinnati and Radford are also slated to play Tech at the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility in 2019.

In March, the Hokies will switch venues to Thompson Field, where they will welcome Denver, Elon, Louisville, North Carolina and Virginia.

The Hokies will head out west during Spring Break, to face USC in Los Angeles on March 10 and then head up the coast for a matchup with Fresno State on March 12.

The ACC slate features trips to Duke, Syracuse, Notre Dame and the University of Virginia.

North Carolina (17-4) – Final Four

Of Note: The Hokies went 8-7 in games last season against teams that feature on the 2019 schedule. They were 7-5 in regular season competition.

Last week the Hokies announced their captains, Mary Claire Byrne, Julia Bolte, Kelci O'Donnell and Emma Harden.

The Hokies are looking to build off of the successes of 2018, a year that saw the squad break the school record for victories with 14, win five ACC games for the first time and feature in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Tech's 24-year history.
