Tech Athletics partnership with Vet Tix a success

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Athletics will hold its annual Military Appreciation Day this weekend when the football team takes on Miami at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The day will feature the usual array of tributes to the fine servicemen and servicewomen, both former and active, who have sacrificed so much for the country. And fortunately, there will be a large contingent of that group on hand to take part in the day.

Part of that turnout is a direct result of Virginia Tech Athletics' partnership with the Veteran Tickets Foundation, or "Vet Tix" for short. The athletics department wanted to honor men and women who have served or are serving in the military, and the "Tickets for Troops" initiative with Vet Tix allows fans to donate money in $25 increments for the purchase of tickets to Virginia Tech home events for veterans. The athletics department then matches donations to cover the full cost of the ticket.

This fall, more than 500 tickets have been donated, and those tickets will be provided to military members for the Hokies' Military Appreciation Day game against Miami.

Tech fans wishing to show their support for veterans and make a contribution toward an upcoming home event may do so by clicking here. All donated tickets for events throughout the year will be distributed to veterans and active duty service members and their families through VetTix.org. To register to receive these tickets, please click here.
