BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech men's golf program has announced that Daniel Azallion, the reigning South Carolina Junior Champion, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Virginia Tech and play golf for the Hokies in Fall 2019. Earlier this summer, he was the state's top-ranked player for the Class of 2018, according to Junior Golf Scoreboard.
Azallion, from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is an honor student and four-year letterman at Hilton Head Christian Academy, where he is captain of the golf team and a three-time All-State selection (2016, 2017, 2018). He represented the Carolinas team in the Virginias/Carolinas Junior Team Matches in 2017 and 2018, and the South Carolina team in the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Team Matches this past summer.
Azallion won both the South Carolina Junior Championship and the South Carolina Independent High School Championship in 2018, along with the CGA Jimmy Anderson Invitational, the SCJGA Jimmy Self Invitational, and the Harvey Brock Orange Jacket Classic in 2017. He also finished fifth in The Blade Invitational, seventh in the Sea Pines Junior Heritage in 2018 and third in the 2017 Southern Cross Invitational.
"Daniel has an outstanding record and won five of the Carolinas' top junior events," head coach Jay Hardwick said. "His final round 68 and come-from-behind victory in the South Carolina Junior Championship at the Dataw Island Club put him in impressive company as his name is now on the trophy alongside FedEx Champion Bill Haas and U.S. Open winner Lucas Glover. He played in the Virginias/Carolinas Junior Team Matches the last two years with current team members Connor Johnson and Drew Brockwell. The three developed a special bond and this will help make his transition to college golf much easier. Already a proven winner, Daniel is a very accomplished player and a quality young man who will play a major role and fit in extremely well with this young talented team."
