Getting to know the Hokies

LIZZIE LOHRER NO. 32
ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA
DEFENDER

Q: Why did you choose Virginia Tech?

Lohrer: I chose Virginia Tech because honestly coming to my visit here I wasn't too sure about it, I wanted to come to campus to actually get a better feel for it. When I came, my perception of it changed a lot. One of the main factors was just that anyone that goes here loves it, you never hear of anyone that doesn't like it here. It just seemed like a very welcoming community.

Q: What was your favorite thing about your visit?

Lohrer: On my visit we rode around the golf cart and toured everything. I really liked the dining halls, especially Turner Place. Then on the official visit we went to a football game and that was really cool, I loved the atmosphere there.

Q: What do you like about Coach Sung and the lacrosse program?

Lohrer: I really like that they have high goals for us. It will be a lot of hard work but it's all worth it because he's focused on getting results. If you're going to be working this hard you might as well push yourself to achieve whatever you can.

Q: What are some of your strengths on the field?

Lohrer: I've developed into someone that can communicate well and be a leader on the field. Even though I'm a freshman, I try not to be too shy because on defense you really need to talk to one another.

Q: What is your most memorable lacrosse moment and why?

Lohrer: In my High School career we have had a lot of championships and great wins.
One I will never forget is my junior year State Championship game, we played our rivals St. Stephens. They had the ball for maybe a five-minute possession and we just held them down. We ended up winning the game in overtime, so that was awesome when someone scored an overtime goal, but I will remember that five-minute hold on defense more.

Q: What interests you about business?

Lohrer: I am not sure what I want to do. Pretty much every major in business interests me a little, so I just want to find out about each of those and see where it takes me.

Q: What has been your favorite part about Virginia Tech so far?

Lohrer: Definitely the team. I knew my class coming in and it's great, but the fact that the team is so close. The seniors and upperclassmen reach out to us so I feel like I'm getting to know them just as much as the other freshmen.

Do you have any nicknames?

Lohrer: I don't think any have carried over here yet, but Zard is one of them. It stems from Lizard, my dad always called me that and then my friends picked it up. Then one day I was like I need a cool nickname so my friends and I thought of Draz because its Zard backwards.

If you couldn't play college lacrosse, what other team would you try out for?

Lohrer: Either soccer or swimming.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Lohrer: I like to relax and watch television with my friends or catch up with my friends back home. I FaceTime a lot, or eat.

What do you like to watch on Netflix?

Lohrer: Greys Anatomy and One Tree Hill.
