Hokies finish ninth at Duke

Rod Myers Invitational Final Results

The Virginia Tech men's golf team posted a three-round total of 30-over 894 and finished in ninth place at the Rod Myers Invitational on Sunday. The two-day event was played at the 7,154-yard, par 72 Duke University Golf Course in Durham, North Carolina.
 
The Hokies shot 294 in Saturday morning's opening round and improved to a 291 in the afternoon round. Tech shot a 309 on Sunday.
 
Connor Johnson Jr., a freshman from Richmond, Virginia, led the Hokies. He shot a 3-under 213 and tied for ninth place. He finished 10 strokes behind medalist John Pak of Florida State. Johnson shot a team-best 2-under 70 on Sunday and posted all three round par-or-better in his collegiate debut.
 
Connor Burgess, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia, tied for 34th place at 222 and Joey Jordan, a senior from Richmond, Virginia, tied for 51st place at 227. Tom Crow, a junior from Virginia Beach, Virginia and Drew Brockwell, a freshman from Chesterfield, Virginia, tied for 63rd at 234.
 
Penn State won the team title with a 12-under 852, two strokes ahead of North Carolina and host Duke. Florida State was fourth a 860, Cincinnati was fifth at 866, Liberty was sixth at 871, ETSU was seventh at 875 and UNC Greensboro was eighth at 888, six strokes ahead of the Hokies. ECU was 10th at 898, Florida Southern was 11th at 907, Princeton was 12th at 910 and Nebraska was 13th at 914.
 
The Hokies return to action on Monday, Sept. 17, as they compete at the Janney Invitational. The two-day tournament, hosted by VCU, will be played in Richmond, Virginia at the Country Club of Virginia's Tuckahoe Creek Course.
