Hokies head to Maryland for first full Play Day of the fall season

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team is set for its first full Fall Play Day of the season this upcoming weekend when the team will travel to Maryland on Sunday, Sept. 30 for a full day of competition.

After the Hokies had to adjust their schedule following the expected rainfall from Hurricane Florence, the team's only fall action to this point has been a scrimmage with nearby Radford University, which took place on Friday, Sept. 21 in Blacksburg. This weekend the Hokies are hitting the road for a full day of action.

"The biggest thing about this weekend is the opportunity to play three NCAA teams who have such a strong history," John Sung commented. "We can use this as a measuring stick of where we are and see where we need to go as we get ready for 2019 which is right around the corner.

We get to introduce the freshmen to what really high level D1 lacrosse is really like and we will see what areas need to improve and where we can get better as a team. I'm excited because it will be an opportunity to get better and get this group playing games again."

Coach Sung and company will look to build on what was a milestone year in 2018, setting numerous records and most impressively, advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, the program's first ever appearance. Despite the loss of the winningest senior class in history, the Hokies have reloaded with a class of freshmen that Inside Lacrosse rated as a top 20 class and has plenty of talent returning to the field buoyed by the experience gained a season ago.

Below is a look at each of the squads that the Hokies will face on Sunday afternoon.
