HAMPTON, Va. – Sophomore Natalie Novotna and senior Caroline Daxhelet have earned 2018 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State honors as voted on by the sports information directors from around the state and announced Thursday by the organization.
Novotna is coming off her sophomore campaign in which she earned All-ACC Second Team honors and qualified for NCAA singles. She finished the season ranked 52nd in the ITA after compiling a 25-13 overall record, including 16-10 at the one during the spring. She claimed wins over six opponents ranked in the final ITA standings and had an impressive 6-0, 6-4 win over No. 23 Carla Touly in Tech's upset of No. 16 Florida State at the ACC Tournament.
Daxhelet wrapped up her career being named the ITA Atlantic Region Senior of the Year after finishing the season with a 13-11 record on the spring. She claimed a pair of ranked wins, playing on court two and had singles wins against players from ranked teams: No. 16 FSU, No. 5 Georgia Tech, No. 31 Syracuse, No. 22 UCF and No. 8 Ole Miss. She had a crucial point in the Hokies' 4-3 ACC Tournament upset of No. 16 Florida State, rallying to defeat Petra Hule (who finished the season ranked No. 113) in three-sets: 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Novotna earned second team honors last season while this is Daxhelet's first nod to the all-state team.
