Manheim, Pennsylvania – Redshirt junior Jared Haught and redshirt sophomore Zack Zavatsky represent the Virginia Tech wrestling program on this year’s National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team, the organization announced last week.
Zavatsky, a packaging systems design major from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, was this year’s ACC Champion at 184 pounds as he qualified for the NCAA Championships and finished with a 25-4 overall record. Last week, he was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second time in his career.
The 2017 ACC Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Haught placed fourth in the nation at 197 pounds and also took the home the ACC title in his weight class. The Parkersburg, West Virginia product is majoring in mechanical engineering and is a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection.
Awarded annually, the NWCA All-Academic team is comprised of 135 student-athletes. Four Division I champions made the team, while six additional runners-up were included. In all, 35 All-Americans were All-Academic selections.
Of the 135 individuals, 115 wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Division I championships, up from 101 last season and an increase of 19 since 2014-15
