Hokies set for two matches in North Carolina

BLACKSBURG - The 17th-ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of ACC matches. On Friday night, the Hokies will take on Duke at 7:30 p.m. in Charlotte before taking on NC State Sunday at 2 p.m. in Raleigh.

Friday’s match with the Blue Devils will take place on the campus of Charlotte Latin School in the Beck Student Activities Center. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased here. Duke is 4-7 overall after rallying to beat Appalachian State 25-18 Wednesday night. The Blue Devils are 0-2 in the ACC after falling to Virginia and Pitt and have no one ranked in the latest Amateur Wrestling News or InterMat polls.

On Sunday, Tech will have a 2 p.m. match against the Wolfpack of NC State inside Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack is 10-3 overall, 0-1 in the ACC and face Campbell Friday night. Three NCSU wrestlers are ranked in the latest AWN poll: No. 20 Tommy Gantt at 157 pounds, No. 19 Pete Renda at 174 pounds and No. 7 Nick Gwiazdowski at heavyweight.

Sunday’s match will be broadcast on on NC State’s web site for free.

The Hokies are 13-2 overall, 2-1 in the ACC after sweeping North Carolina and Maryland last weekend at home.
