Hokie ClubJONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech golf team shot a total of two-over-par 866 and finished in fourth place in the 12th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges on Sunday. The tournament was played at the 7,147-yard, par-72 The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn.
The Hokies shot a one-under-par 287 on Saturday following a 290 on Friday. They shot a final round one-over-par 289 for the 866 total.
Junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) tied for second place in the tournament following his third straight one-under-par 71 in Sunday's final round. His three-day total of 213 placed him in a three-way tie for second with reigning ACC Player of the Year Matt Hill of NC State and Darren Renwick of Tennessee seven strokes behind medalist Diego Velasquez of Oregon State.
Freshman Mikey Moyers (Standardsville, Va.) posted his best-ever collegiate finish in the event with a three-day total of two-under-par 214, good for a tie for fifth place. Moyers shot a final round two-under-par 70, the low score of the day for the Hokies and tied for the second-lowest score of the day by any player.
Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) finished in a tie for 11th place at one-under-par 215. Junior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Va.) tied for 47th place with a 224 and sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) tied for 55th place with a 227. Freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) played the event as an individual and tied for 75th place at 233.
Tennessee and Oregon State entered the final round tied for the lead and at the end of play on Sunday, the same scenario remained, after each shot a third round six-over-par 294. The teams tied at 861, but the Volunteers were declared the winner, based on the score of their fifth (non-counting) player. Virginia was third at 863, three strokes ahead of the Hokies. Duke was fifth at 869, host East Tennessee State was sixth at 874 and Wake Forest was seventh at 875. Missouri was eighth at 876, North Carolina was ninth at 877 and NC State was 10th at 872. UNC Wilmington was 11th at 885, Kent State was 12th at 886, Auburn was 13th at 888, Coastal Carolina was 14th at 892 and UAB was 15th at 912.
The Hokies will conclude the fall portion of their schedule on Oct. 24-25, as they travel to Greensboro, N.C., to compete in the UNCG Bridgestone Invitational at the Forest Oaks Country Club.
