Newell tabbed ACC Co-Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week

BLACKSBURG, Va.- Virginia Tech senior swimmer Megan Newell was named co-ACC Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference this afternoon. Newell shares the award with North Carolina’s Rebecca Kane.

This weekend, Newell helped the H2Okie women post a 182-118 win over Clemson. The senior recorded victories in the 100 and 200 fly events, while setting a new War Memorial Pool record in the 100 fly with a time of 54.66. In the 200 fly, Newell touched in at 2:02.88.

After scoring a total of 18 individual points, Newell assisted in the H2Okie women capturing a victory in the 200-medley relay. The team finished the race in 1:41.54, to break the pool record that was set in the first meet this season.

Newell and the H20kies will be back in action on Nov.19-22 at the Volunteer Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn. The team will compete against Kentucky and host Tennessee.
