Hokie ClubVirginia Tech junior Brandon Corace (Naples, Fla.) overcame the intense heat over the weekend to win the USTA-Virginia State Hardcourt Championships in Richmond. Corace won all five of his singles contests without the loss of a set including a 6-4, 6-3, victory in the championship match over Dartmouth junior Andrew Kim. The title was the second of the summer for Corace after winning the Firecracker Open in Boca Raton, Fla. in July. In doubles action in Richmond, Corace teamed with former Tech player Brent Wilkins to win a marathon final, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), over Kevin Reichert and Phil Thacker.
