QUICK FACTS

  • English Field opened in 1989 and was dedicated for the late E.R. "Red" English and his wife, Ruth, who provided financial support for the original field construction.
  • In 2016, the home of the Hokies was renamed to English Field at Union Park (rebranded in 2019) upon a $3.5 million commitment to facility enhancements.
  • Beginning in 2017, English Field underwent a $20 million renovation that accommodated a new grandstand seating area, new press-level premium suites, 1,132 permanent chair-back seats in concrete stands, a club level above the first base dugout and a social picnic area down the right field line.
  • Included in its latest renovation were a ticket booth, restrooms, enhanced concessions, a merchandise office, an umpire dressing room, a storage room for facilities use and a visiting team room.
  • Above English Field, the second level features four luxury suites with an extra hospitality area, broadcast and radio booths, a game operations booth, a press area and video rooms.

Virginia Tech set its single-season attendance record during the 2022 campaign, welcoming 43,615 fans into English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.

JAMES C. WEAVER BASEBALL CENTER

QUICK FACTS

  • Opened in 2009, the James C. Weaver Baseball Center was named in 2015 after former Tech athletics director Jim Weaver, whose tenure from 1997-2013 saw tremendous development in the national profile of the university's athletic programs.
  • The 18,000 square-foot facility is devoted solely to Virginia Tech baseball and grants baseball student-athletes with 24-hour access.
  • On the ground floor, the center features a 40-locker baseball team room and lounge, a restroom and shower area, a laundry room, an equipment storage area, an athletic training room and a team meeting room equipped with video capabilities.
  • Atop the center lies a versatile 70'x70' enclosed area with a field turf surface, three batting cages and a permanent pitcher's mound for year-round refining of pitching mechanics.
  • Additionally, the second floor provides the baseball staff its own meeting area and includes two large locker room areas plus restrooms.

PITCHING LAB

Virginia Tech opened its standalone pitching lab during the 2023 season, debuting a performance facility dedicated solely to the Hokies' pitchers.

Inside, Virginia Tech operates two pitching lanes fully decked out with modern, state-of-the-art pitching technology designed to optimize mechanics, pitch shaping and velocity. Additionally, the Hokies' pitchers have exclusive access to strength bands and weights, making it a year-round home to Tech's mound dwellers.

Tucked between Virginia Tech's pitching lab and the outfield wall to English Field lies a brand new, fully functional bullpen (as used on gamedays). Including its traditional bullpen along the left field line, the Hokies now have four outdoor bullpen lanes (two dirt, two turf) that allow them to prepare for all game situations.

W.A. & MAE STREET OLYMPIC SPORTS ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE CENTER

DID YOU KNOW?

Virginia Tech's baseball student-athletes train in the 6,000-square foot, $1 million Street Olympic Sports Athletic Performance Center. The two-tiered facility includes a lower level dedicated to strength training and a unique 1,800-square foot mezzanine level dedicated to functional movement, which helps student-athletes prevent injuries.

NUTRITION OASIS

FUELING THE HOKIES

The Nutrition Oasis serves as an area where Virginia Tech baseball student-athletes can access Gatorade products, smoothies, fruits, trail mix and Greek yogurt for fueling before, during and after practice. Tech's sports nutrition staff dedicates itself to staying on the cutting edge of nutritional research to help student-athletes reach peak performance.

ACHIEVING ACADEMIC POTENTIAL

The Student-Athlete Academic Support Services offices are located on the west side of Lane Stadium between the north and south towers. The staff provides comprehensive academic support services such as tutoring, studying assistance, computing technology, and academic and individual skill development programs.

STUDENT-ATHLETE PERFORMANCE CENTER

HEALTHY DINING

The $20 million Student-Athlete Performance Center, finished in 2020 and built on the top floor of the Jamerson Athletics Center, enables student-athletes to grab snacks or eat meals from a full-service kitchen. Its expanded dining area overlooks the Steve Johnson Football Practice Fields and Lane Stadium.

LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITY

Opened in August 2021, the Creativity and Innovation District residence hall is the home of nearly 600 Hokies who share in one of Tech's many living-learning communities. Within this state-of-the-art, 232,000-square-foot facility, student-athletes can merge their academic and co-curricular experiences to create a supportive, dynamic campus living environment.
