RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 11/13 Virginia Tech won its 13th-straight game with a 10-0 win at NC State on Sunday afternoon at Dail Softball Stadium.
The win also marks the Hokies’ third straight ACC series sweep and fourth straight ACC series win. Tech improves to 11-1 in the conference.
Trinity Martin hit her first home run of the season in the win while Michelle Chatfield launched her 10th of the year.
How It Happened: Virginia Tech 10, NC State 0 (6 inn.)
The Hokies capitalized on a pair of Wolfpack errors in the top of the first inning and saw three runs cross home plate. A sacrifice fly by Zoe Yaeger capped the four-run first inning for the Hokies.
Despite the Wolfpack threatening in the bottom of the first, the Hokie defense got out of the bases-loaded jam to keep NC State scoreless early.
It remained a 4-0 game until the top of the fourth inning when Trinity Martin launched her first home run of the season – a three-run shot to center – to extend the lead to 7-0.
Sophie Kleiman pitched 4.0 innings before Emma Lemley entered the circle in the bottom of the fourth. With another stellar performance in the circle, Kleiman threw four scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
With the 7-0 lead headed to the sixth, Michelle Chatfield capitalized on an Annika Rohs walk and a Cori McMillan single and sent a three-run home run to center field to increase the Hokie lead to 10-0.
