BLACKSBURG – No 17/18 Virginia Tech secured the series win with a 6-1 win over No. 23/RV Virginia on Saturday afternoon at Tech Softball Park.

Zoe Yaeger hit two home runs on the day and Emily LeGette hit her first home run of the season in the win. Cori McMillan joined the home run party with her solo shot to left center in the fourth inning.

How It Happened: Virginia Tech 6, Virginia 1
Zoe Yaeger and Emily LeGette hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second to take a quick 2-0 lead It was LeGette’s first of the season.

Yaeger quickly followed that up with another long ball in the bottom of the third for her second of the day. After hitting no home runs through the first 19 games of the season, Yaeger has recorded four home runs over the last four games.

Emma Mazzarone threw four complete innings and tallied two strikeouts before Sophie Kleiman came into the circle. Keliman gave up just two hits and recorded four strikeouts.

Virginia added one run in the top of the sixth before threatening in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs, Emma Lemley entered the circle and struck out the final Cavalier batter to secure the 6-1 win.

The win gives the Hokies one point in the Commonwealth Clash, presented by Smithfield. The score for the Commonwealth Clash currently is 8.0.-6.0 in favor of Virginia. For more information, visit hokiesports.com/clash.
