Hokies storm back on Miami to secure first ACC victory

Baker, Wenzel lead Tech to 68-64 win Sunday afternoon

CORAL GABLES, FLA. - Down 12 in the third quarter, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team came back to take a late lead and hung on to defeat Miami 68-64 Sunday afternoon. The win is the Hokies' first in ACC play this season and the first under Head Coach Megan Duffy.

Tech moves to 10-4 (1-2) on the season and Miami is 11-4 (1-3).

Sophomore Carys Baker had a career day, scoring 23 points (her first 20-point game of her career). She went 7-12 from beyond the arc, joining a handful of Hokies who have ever matched the feat in ACC play.

She was joined in double figures by Carleigh Wenzel who notched 17, including clutch free throws in the closing seconds top secure the victory.

Tech took advantage of turnovers, scoring 17 points off 19 turnovers.

The Hokies are back in action Thursday Jan. 9 at Georgia Tech.
