BLACKSBURG - Behind a raucous sellout crowd at Cassell Coliseum, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team earned a 70-65 victory over one of the ACC's top teams Louisville. Lani White, who led four Hokies in double figures with 18 points in the game got things started with two 3's in the first quarter as Tech darted out to a lead they would never relinquish.
Tech moves to 13-5 (3-2) while the Cardinals sit at 13-6 (6-2).
On Liz Kitley Night, the Hokies played inspired leading wire to wire for a signature victory. At halftime, the capacity crowd was treated to a ceremony unveiling a banner with the iconic 33 jersey of legend Elizabeth Kitley as she became just the second women's basketball athlete to receive the honor.
Carleigh Wenzel (12), Rose Micheaux (10) and Kayl Petersen (12) were also in double figures Sunday, in a performance typical of this Hokies squad that shares the wealth. For Petersen it was her first double figure scoring game in ACC play, as she went 5-6 from the field.
The Hokies will spend the next week on the road as they travel to Pitt on Jan. 23 and NC State on Jan. 26.
