BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech Athletics’ Sport Psychology department, in partnership with the Virginia Tech Hokie Club, is excited to relaunch its annual Mental Health Awareness Month fundraising initiative. The campaign begins Thursday and will run through the entire month of May.

This fundraising effort aims to provide additional financial support for Counseling and Athletic Mental Performance (CAMP), helping to enhance mental health services available to all Virginia Tech student-athletes.

"We’ve made great progress in promoting better mental health for our student-athletes, thanks to the incredible generosity of Hokie Nation,” said Dr. Gary Bennett, Senior Associate Athletic Director and head of CAMP. “These funds are vital in helping us continue to provide the best possible care for over 600 student-athletes in Blacksburg.”

Supporters can contribute to this mission by donating to the Sport Psychology department. Gifts will directly benefit CAMP’s ongoing mental health initiatives. In addition to one-on-one support, CAMP also organizes annual suicide prevention workshops and delivers team-based mental health programming throughout the year. Click here to support the campaign.

"Our sports psychology team plays such a vital role in supporting the well-being of our student-athletes,” said Chris Helms, Executive Associate AD for Sport Administration, who oversees CAMP. “Their professionalism, empathy, and approachability create a welcoming environment that encourages athletes to seek help without hesitation. Their presence not only enhances mental health services but also helps break down inaccurate stereotypes often associated with seeking support.”
