NOTRE DAME, Ind. – With leadoff men Jared Davis and Ben Watson combining to yield eight RBIs during Sunday’s series finale, the Virginia Tech baseball team bested Notre Dame, 11-5, at Frank Eck Baseball Stadium, securing its third consecutive ACC series (second straight on the road).
Davis (2-for-5) doubled twice from the top spot in the Hokies’ lineup while Watson (3-for-6) set a season high with five RBIs, delivering three run-scoring hits. Ironically, Davis and Watson both produced bases-clearing, three-RBI doubles during the second and fourth innings, respectively, providing the six-run scoring foundation that sent the visitors well on their way to victory.
Virginia Tech (22-10, 9-6 ACC) received the best ACC start of the season from freshman right-hander Logan Eisenreich, who struck out seven batters while holding the Irish to a run on three hits. Despite pitching two outs short of qualifying for Sunday’s winning decision, Eisenreich put the Hokies on a trajectory to notch their eighth ACC victory during their last 10 conference games.
