BLACKSBURG – Draft week has officially arrived, and Virginia Tech football should be highly represented for the 90th edition of the NFL Draft. The 2025 NFL Draft will take place this year at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, starting on Thursday, April 24th at 8 p.m. ET.

Before the draft, an extensive scouting process began back in late January, when multiple former Hokies received invites to the East-West Shrine Bowl and the Reese’s Senior Bowl. This was just the beginning for the draft-eligible student-athletes, as six Hokies received invites in March to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. 17 former student-athletes also showcased their talents to scouts and coaches during the program’s Pro Day on March 26.

Now, the final process of a lifelong dream begins to come to fruition in just a few days.

The beginning of the three-day event will include 32 selections in the first round, and a unique wrinkle is that this year’s draft marks the first time all NFL teams have their own first-round pick in the common draft era. Each team will have 10 minutes to make its pick or conduct a trade for other draft picks or players.

Coverage will continue Friday evening at 7 p.m. with rounds 2-3, followed by rounds 4-7 on Saturday starting at noon. After a longer selection window on Thursday, the draft clock will speed up to seven minutes in the second round. Then, beginning in round three, regular selections and compensatory picks expire after five minutes, followed by just four minutes in round seven.

In total, 257 players will hear their name called on draft day. 32 selections will occur in each of the first two rounds, with 38 picks in round three, 36 in round four, 40 selections in rounds five and six, concluding with 41 picks in the seventh round.
