Tech falls in second round of ACC Championships

The Hokies gave a valiant effort against Miami, but ultimately fell short on Wednesday afternoon.

CARY, N.C. – The Hokies fall in the second round of ACC Championships on Wednesday to 10th-seeded Miami 4-2.

Tech ends a 13-win season with a second-round exit from the ACC Championships, battling throughout the entire match.

The day started with a win from freshmen doubles pair, Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura, 6-4 on Court 3. Miami took the win on Courts 1 and 2 to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, Tara Gorinsek wrapped up her college career with a massive sweep on Court 2 to get the Hokies on the board. Gorinsek took down Jaquelyn Ogunwale of the Canes 6-4, 6-1.

Arina Gamretkaia was the other Hokie to find success on the afternoon, with a sweep of Maria Paula Vargas on Court 5. Gamretkaia took the first set 6-4, before going all the way in the second to take the tiebreaker 7-2.

The decisive point fell to Court 3 with Semra Aksu who battled in her final match in a Tech uniform but ultimately fell in three sets to No. 107 Raquel Gonzalez.

Tech ends the ACC Championships with a 13-12 record and awaits possible selection for NCAA Regionals.
