LOUISVILLE - After holding just a two-goal lead after three quarters, the Virginia Tech lacrosse team scored all seven of the game's goals in the fourth frame and shut Louisville out to earn their second ACC win of the season 16-7 Saturday afternoon.
The win moves Tech's record to 7-2 (2-1) on the season ahead of a trip to California next week to take on Stanford on Friday, March 14.
The Hokies started freshman Maeve Obrist in goal, the first start of the rookie's career and she delivered, not just the victory but a nine-save performance, including four in the fourth quarter to keep the Cardinals off the board.
On the offensive side of the field, Tech was led by Mia Pozzi's seven points (five goals, two assists), while Maura O'Malley and freshman Kamryn Henson each added hat tricks. Lauren Render (2), Marie Cacciabaudo (2) and Kate Elam also scored in the game for the Hokies who are 2-1 in ACC play for the first time since 2022.
Tech's next contest at Stanford will start at 6 p.m. ET and can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
