Top-Seeded Hokies

Eddie Ventresca (125-pounds), Sam Latona (141-pounds), Caleb Henson (149-pounds), and Rafael Hipolito, Jr. (157-pounds) headline the Hokies as the top-seeds in their respective weight classes as determined by criteria and voting by the conference’s head coaches. The No. 1 seeds all earn a bye in the opening round of competition and automatically advance to the semifinals of Sunday’s tournament.

  • Ventresca stands at 16-3 on the year with six wins over previously higher ranked opponents and stands at 5-1 against the conference field
  • Latona enters his final conference championship looking for his second career ACC title with a 22-6 record and undefeated against conference, 6-0
  • Riding a 21-match win streak dating back to last season’s NCAA tournament – 16-0 this season and 4-0 in the conference – ranked No. 1 in the country, Henson will look for his second ACC crown on Sunday
  • The redshirt freshman from Manaus, Brazil has thrived in his first year in the lineup with a 14-3 with two wins over two All-Americans to add to his resume

  • McGonagle stands at 12-1 with a 62% bonus rate in his first and final year in orange and maroon. McGonagle is 5-0 against the conference field including a win over a two-time All-American
  • At heavyweight, Mullen has stepped into the lineup and hasn’t looked back with a 17-4 record including eight ranked wins in his debut season. Mullen’s lone conference blemish is to the conference’s top-seed

Rounding Out the Hokies

  • Andy Smith is tabbed with the three seed at 197-pounds after going 2-2 in conference competition
  • At 184-pounds, Thomas Stewart, Jr. will take the mat as the four seed after going 4-2 against the conference and will look to defend his ACC title in his sophomore campaign
  • Both Mac Church (165-pounds) and Lennox Wolak (174-pounds) were given the five seed to round out the Hokies. The redshirt freshman Church is 2-4 against the field while grad transfer Wolak will enter his first and last ACC appearance with a 5-2 conference dual record.
