BLACKSBURG – Behind a combination of raw talent and athletic ability, outfielder Bre Peck has been a key contributor to the Virginia Tech Softball team through 15 games this spring. The Royersford, Pennsylvania native’s knack to show up when it matters most, whether it be with the bat or the glove, has given the Hokies (12-3) lots to be excited about as competition continues. With over 70% of the season left to go, fans won’t want to miss Peck when she steps up to the plate.
Peck first started competing with the Hokies in 2022 after graduating from Spring-Ford High School in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. In her first two years at Tech, the 5-foot-10 outfielder produced 100 hits, 23 doubles and 27 home runs with a .325 batting average. Peck would also be responsible for 77 runs batted in alongside a 76.6% slugging percentage in her sophomore year, the highest among Tech starters in 2023.
The Pennsylvania native would see her stats continue to climb in her junior year. Fresh off a 2023 All-ACC Second Team nod as a sophomore, Peck would post career-highs in hits (60) and RBIs (51) in her third year, all while doing so with a .345 batting average. Peck would also go on to start all 55 games of her third season, doing so with just three other members of the Hokies softball team.
Now in her senior season, it’s evident that Peck hasn’t let her foot off the gas. Peck’s team third-highest .380 batting percentage, complimented by her 15 consecutive starts, is evidence enough that she isn’t slowing down in her last season as a Hokie.
Peck has also found a home on top of the leaderboards throughout her time as a Hokie, and this season has proven to be no different. She currently leads the team in at bats (50), hits (19), runs batted in (22), home runs (5) and total bases (38).
Perhaps Peck’s most impressive game this spring was played on Feb. 15 against UT-Arlington. In four at bats, the senior’s two home runs (a solo shot in the first inning, a two-run bomb in the third) accounted for three of the six runs in the eventual shutout victory.
