ELON, N.C. - The Virginia Tech lacrosse team earned its largest victory of the season, and second consecutive with a 16-4 road win at Elon Tuesday evening. Tech was on the attack early and often, scoring twice in the opening two and a half minutes and building a 5-0 lead before Elon could find the back of the net.
The Hokies owned a significant advanatge 17-6 on the draw circle, in large part due to Lauren Render who coralled six draw herself, leading to a shot disparity of 27-16 in their favor. Tech was able to capitalize on free position chances throughout the night, making five of their six 8-meter shots.
Mia Pozzi led six Hokie goal scorers with six goals, a career-high for the sophomore and the first hat trick of her career. Attacker Maura O'Malley also registered four goals in the game which tied her career-high.
In defense, Aaliyah Jones earned the win in goal making four saves and recording five ground balls in the contest. For the fourth quarter, she gave way to freshman Maeve Obrist who saw her first collegiate action.
The Hokies will get their first taste of ACC action on Saturday, Feb. 22 at noon at Thompson Field.
