DURHAM, N.C. – Virginia Tech women’s tennis opens its 2025 spring season with two matches on Monday, January 20.
The Hokies faced the Duke Blue Devils in their first match of the day, falling 4-0.
On Court 3, Arina Gamretkaia and Linda Ziets-Segura were paired up for their first doubles competition in a VT uniform, finding a 6-4 win over Katie Codd and Ava Krug.
Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu competed on Court 2 while Semra Aksu and Tara Gorinsek were on Court 1 for the opening match of the day.
In singles, the Hokies were unable to find their footing against the Blue Devils, with three athletes dropping in straight sets to give Duke the match win.
In the afternoon match, Tech took down North Carolina Central with a 4-0 win.
#62 Cartledge and Uslu defeated Alejandra Hidalgo and Valeria San Miguel of NCCU, 6-0. Mila Mulready and Laima Frosch beat Valentina De Aquino and Gabriela Mejia 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for the Hokies.
In singles, #124 Frosch started Tech off with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mariana Zottoli. Gorinsek got her first singles win in a Tech uniform, 6-1, 6-1 over San Miquel. Aksu clinched the win for the Hokies with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Hidalgo on Court 1.
