BLACKSBURG – Tech punter Peter Moore has continued to excel in his fifth year as a Hokie. The redshirt senior has been one of the most reliable members of the special teams unit this fall, using elite punting precision to flip the field in favor of the Hokie defense. Moore and the Hokies see the field next when they visit the Duke Blue Devils for an in-conference matchup on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. ET.
Moore first saw prominent game action as a redshirt freshman in 2021 and hasn’t looked back since. Punting in all 13 games last season, the Davidsonville, Maryland native accumulated 2,588 yards over 60 punts for an average of 43.1 yards per punt, fifth-highest in the ACC. 19 of his 60 punts (31.7%) went for over 50 yards while 17 punts were downed within the 20-yard line, a prime example of how Moore punts with a finesse that has earned him acclaim through his years at Tech.
Entering his redshirt senior year this fall, hopes were high for Moore. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound punter was named captain for the third consecutive season, joining offensive lineman Tyrell Smith as the only Hokie in history to be named a captain three times in their career. Through ten games this season, Moore has done more than simply meet his preseason expectations.
After being named to the Ray Guy award watch list for the third consecutive year, Moore has punted 44 times for 2,006 yards for the third-highest average in the conference with 45.6 yards per punt. Longs of 61 yards against Stanford, 57 yards against Georgia Tech and 55 yards against Clemson contribute to his 12 punts of over 50 yards, while 13 of his 44 punts have landed within the 20.
Moore and the Hokies will play for bowl eligibility when they visit the Duke Blue Devils this Saturday, Nov. 23. The contest will be the first of two conference duels to end the season and is the 31st installment in a series that Tech leads 19-11.
