INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Following the conclusion of the NCAA Regionals on Friday, the NCAA Selection Committee annouced the participants of the 2024 NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisc. on Saturday afternoon.

Virginia Tech men's cross country program heard their name called during the at-large selection portion of the announcement.  The 2024 trip to the NCAA Championship is the first for the program since 2019, where they finished 17th overall.  Peter Suefer led the program in 2019 and earned back-to-back All-American honors for his performance at nationals.

The at-large selection follows a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional, a result that is highlighted by a 10k overall individual victory for George Couttie and a top-15 finish for Nicholas Kipchirchir, which also brought NCAA All-Region honors for the pair.  The fourth-place finish was the highest for the program since second-place finishes in 2019 and 2017.

George Couttie's 10k first place finish result of 29:41.7 was the highest finish in an NCAA Regional for an individual since Peter Seufer in 2019.  Couttie is one of three individuals from the Virginia Tech program to collect a first place finish at a regional (Peter Seufer, Thomas Curtain).

Of note, the highest NCAA Championship finish for the men's cross country program, of the eight appearances in program history, was in 1987, where the squad finished fourth overall.

The championship race will be at Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Verona, Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 23. The women's 6k will be streamed live on ESPNU beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT with the men's race following at 11 a.m. CT.  Those representing Virginia Tech will be George Couttie, Nicholas Kipchirchir, William Winter, Declan Rymer, Arnav Tikhe, Ben Reynolds, Sam Hubert and Ethan Coleman.
