THE PETE DYE RIVER COURSE

The Hokies' home course is ranked sixth nationally by Golf Digest among collegiate golf courses.

  • The Hokies home course was redesigned by famed architect Pete Dye in 2006.
  • The course has hosted numerous championship events, including the 2011 NCAA Blacksburg Regional for men's golf.
  • The scenic venue, set along the New River, has become a destination course among top golfers.

WILLIS AND MARY BLACKWOOD INDOOR GOLF FACILITY

Thanks to a generous donation from Willis and Mary Blackwood, this 2,600 square-foot facility includes offices for the coaches, a conference room, private restrooms and locker rooms for the men and women, and a small lounge area. More importantly, the facility includes a chipping and putting area and two state-of-the-art golf simulators that allow for skill instruction and practice during inclement weather and also at night.

"The indoor facility is an awesome outlet for the team to use in our free time, especially before or after classes...we have the ability to work on our game as well as other key aspects such as set up, alignment and positions in our golf swings."

Virginia Tech Coaching Staff

Head Coach Carol Robertson

Carol Robertson just completed her 11th season overall and 10th season of competition, as the head coach of the Hokies’ women’s golf program. Robertson was hired on July 8, 2013, as the program’s first-ever head coach.

Robertson has built this program the right way. Recruiting outstanding student-athletes who compete on the course, in the classroom and in the community. The Virginia Tech women’s golf program was a known and respected entity before the team ever competed in their first event.

Under Robertson the Hokies have competed in six NCAA Regionals.

A terrific student-athlete in her own right at James Madison, Robertson was a two-time CAA Player of the Year and three-time first team all-conference selection.

Assistant Coach Russell Abbott

Russell Abbott is in his 11th season as the women’s golf program’s assistant coach. He began working at Virginia Tech on June 2, 2014.

Since his arrival in Blacksburg, Abbott has worked closely with head coach Carol Robertson to quickly build the Hokies’ program from its infancy to four NCAA Regional bids, and first-ever trip to the national championship in 2021 - in just eight seasons of competition. And along with their exceptional play on the course, the program has been built on the fundamentals of academic success and community service to go hand-in-hand with success in competition.

On the course, Abbott has a current USGA index of +0.5. He has several tournament victories in the East Chapter of the Georgia section of the PGA, plus a second place finish at the 2013 Georgia East Chapter Championship at Statesboro Country Club. He tied for second at the national 2013 Bridgestone Premier Invitational, hosted by Firestone Country Club. In 2013, he tied for ninth in the Georgia Assistant’s Division tournament at the East Lake Golf Club.
