THE SERIES

  • The series history between Virginia Tech and Pitt is split nearly as close as it can be with the 5-5-4 record.
  • Though the overall scope seems even, the series has gone in two different directions historically.
  • The Hokies dominated the early years of the rivalry, going undefeated in the first nine contests.
  • Since the arrival of Jay Vidovich and Pitt's rise to national prominence, the Panthers are 5-3 against the Hokies.

A WIN WOULD

  • Be Virginia Tech's first ACC win of the season.
  • Be Virginia Tech's first win against Pitt since Oct. 12, 2018.
  • Be Virginia Tech's first win against a team ranked or receiving votes in the 2022 season.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Hokies dropped their fifth ACC match of the season to North Carolina last Friday.
  • A goal in each half carried the Tar Heels to a 2-0 victory, making it Tech's third-straight loss by more than one goal. When the Hokies opened the season 0-3-1, the three losses were all one-goal margins.

FAMILIAR FOES

  • The Hokies and Panthers have met four times in the last two seasons with Pitt taking all four matches.
  • Two of the matches have been more in Pitt's favor, while two have been overtime thrillers.
