BLACKSBURG – Head coach Justin Fuente announced Thursday that DB Devon Hunter will wear Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey on Saturday in Virginia Tech's game vs. Rhode Island. It will mark the first time that the redshirt sophomore has earned the honor of wearing Beamer's No. 25 jersey.
Hunter (6-0, 227) owns two tackles on the season, registering those takedowns against Furman and Duke. Hunter, who has made one start in his career, owns 11 total tackles, including a sack at ODU last season.
After playing in 10 games during the 2017 season, Hunter redshirted following the 2018 campaign. A five-star recruit as rated by Scout and a four-star by ESPN and 247Sports, he selected Virginia Tech after a stellar prep career at Indian River High School.
At the beginning of the 2016 season, head coach Justin Fuente announced that a special teams' player of the week would be selected to wear the No. 25 as a tribute to Coach Beamer and his legacy of special teams' excellence he established for the Hokies.
