Men's Basketball

Coaches vs. Cancer Fundraiser planned

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Head Coach Seth Greenberg and the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team announced Tuesday a fundraiser to support research for brain cancer, in honor of Allen Calloway, a forward on the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team from 2002-2006. Calloway passed away in February 2009 after a four-year battle with cancer.

Commemorative bracelets, debossed with “AC #21 and FOREVER A HOKIE”, will be sold for $1 each at the University Bookstore on-campus, Volume II Bookstore off-campus or the HokieShop in Cassell Coliseum on game day.

“Allen embodied the true Hokie Spirit,” Greenberg said. “This is just one way for us to keep his memory alive while helping fight the disease that took his life.”

Individuals or groups wishing to purchase a minimum of 100 wrist bands or to make a private donation can do so by emailing the Virginia Tech Men’s Basketball Office at shspradl@vt.edu or by mailing a check made out to the American Cancer Society to: Men’s Basketball Calloway Tribute, Jamerson Athletic Center, Blacksburg, VA 24061. No credit card orders will be taken.

The goal of this initiative is to raise $3,021 and present a check prior to the men’s basketball game versus Wake Forest on Tuesday, February 16th. The 21 is in honor of the jersey number Calloway wore during his Hokie career.

All funds donated will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
