The Virginia Tech women’s track & field team is ranked fourth in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Outdoor Pre-National poll.
As the two-time defending Atlantic Coast Conference indoor and outdoor champions, the women's team finished 21st at last season's national outdoor meet. The Hokies won their second consecutive NCAA East Regional championship and will send 13 different athletes to next weekend’s national championships in nine different events.
The Hokies debuted at No. 3 in the preseason poll, their highest ranking of the season, but have been in the No. 4 spot in three of the weekly polls this season.
Tech is coming off its best performance ever at a national event with a 10th-place finish in the team standings of this year’s NCAA Indoor Championships.
The men's team is rated 40th nationally behind the strength of three athletes who qualified for the NCAA Championships. Tech is the third ACC team listed in the USTFCCCA poll.
