HOKIES IN THE NBA DRAFT

Virginia Tech has produced 27 NBA Draft picks in program history, dating back to Chris Smith being selected by Syracuse in the second round in 1961.

In 2019, Nickeil Alexander-Walker became the Hokies' second-ever first-round selection, going No. 17 to the Brooklyn Nets. Dell Curry is Tech's highest all-time selection when he was chosen at No. 15 overall by the Utah Jazz in 1986.

For the second-straight season, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and the Minnesota Timberwolves advanced to the Western Conference Finals.

Dell Curry, Virginia Tech's highest NBA Draft pick at No. 15 overall, retired in 2002 as the Charlotte Hornets' all-time leader in scoring (9,839) and 3-pointers made (929).

HOKIES ON THE OLYMPIC STAGE

Bimbo Coles and Nickeil Alexander-Walker stand alone in Virginia Tech men’s basketball history as the only two Hokies to compete in the Olympic Games. Coles first paved the way, earning a bronze medal with Team USA in the 1988 Seoul Olympics as a standout point guard under coach John Thompson.

Decades later, Alexander‑Walker followed suit, representing Canada at the 2024 Paris Olympics—becoming the second Hokie to don Olympic colors—after a standout collegiate career in Blacksburg from 2017 to 2019. Canada advanced to the quarterfinals, before falling to host France.

Together, their achievements underscore Virginia Tech’s rising impact on the international stage.
