BLACKSBURG – The 2025 football offseason is starting to ramp up, ushering in another exciting era of Virginia Tech competition later this fall. Before the Hokies face their foes in Lane Stadium, however, they must face a unique opponent: each other.

Phase One of offseason football workouts started this week, the first preparations toward what promises to be an intriguing regular season later this August. The workouts, which are commonly known as the Hunger Drills, focus on improving agility, showcasing strength, and lighting a competitive fire amongst student-athletes.

The launch of the winter workout program also provides vital opportunities for new Assistant Athletic Director of Football Strength and Conditioning Jarrett Ferguson and Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning Mason Baggett to build relationships with the student-athletes. Competition most often found during Hunger Drills includes sled races and tug-of-war challenges with a tire. The drills serve as a great test for seasoned veterans and newer Hokies alike to establish a good tone heading into spring workouts.
